Signature Work Project Overview

Nowadays, blockchain technology and its associated cryptocurrencies provide intriguing new ways for philanthropy to flourish. Because blockchain has the potential to promote transparency and traceability while lowering administrative expenses, some philanthropic organizations and initiatives are already using it in their transactions. Donors, on the other hand, may have distinct giving preferences for blockchain-based organizations or initiatives. As a result, the focus of this research is on Chinese donors, with the goal of identifying their propensity to donate to charitable organizations and initiatives that use blockchain technology. More specifically, we will see whether their propensity to give via blockchain technology is related to their socioeconomic background (education level and disposable income) and whether they would be more inclined to give to recipients who are more psychologically close (empathic tendency to engage and identifiable donor background). Through a study of 350 respondents, we tested the hypothesis that individuals with higher socioeconomic status, or closer psychological proximity to the donee, would demonstrate higher acceptance and willingness to donate to blockchain. As a result of this research, charitable giving organizations and programs that use blockchain are aided in their outreach and gift solicitation efforts.
