| This project critically reflects on the impact of the entertainment nature of mass media on the social life of the masses under China’s current harsh censorship and control mechanisms. The findings suggest that while the entertainment properties of mass media have greatly facilitated the CCP’s use of mass media to maintain the legitimacy and stability of its rule, they have also to some extent undermined the public’s motivation to gain direct experience through practice. At the same time, the project explores the adaptability and possibilities of existential values in resisting the dominant discursive control of current Chinese society, and also attempts to expose the same underlying logic of control discourse prevalent in the “Xiao Jia” (family) and the “Da Jia” (nation). By advocating the cognitive approach of “Unity of knowledge and action”, the ultimate goal of the film is to stimulate the public’s spirit of resistance and awaken their sense of autonomy, and actively seek to break through the limitations of individual cognition in the media itself and the general social environment. |
