The paper will first review the different waves of feminist movements throughout history, and then focus on the unique impact of Chinese history and national conditions on the development of the feminist movement in China. Second, the paper will point out the negative impact of digital culture on the feminist future from the origin and reinforcement of bias in social media algorithms and explore the possibility of using digital technology to develop feminist movements. Third, the paper will discuss the positive and negative roles played by social media in the feminist movement and ultimately point out the limitations of the underlying logic of social media in the digital feminist movement. Nushu is the main concept covered in this paper, and the plot unfolding and visual design regarding the final puppet show outcome revolves around the connotation and visual image of Nushu. Finally, the paper will use Nushu and the monster image in Chinese mythology as a basis to indicate the positive effects of the shadow puppet performance in revealing the influence of social media on the development of the feminist movement in China in terms of cultural values, metaphorical meanings and audience groups.
