” The Chu-Han contention, the events the screenplay is based on, consists of a complex web of military and political battles. The screenplay aims to adapt from historical records, such as the Records of the Grand Historian while also integrating mythological sources like Investiture of the Gods. The secondary aim of the project is translating a section of the screenplay into Chinese. Contrary to the assumption that the main character of the script, Han Hsin, is simply a loyal general who was killed by paranoid superiors, the research delves into historical records, as well as the character in the screenplay, suggest otherwise. Rather, records suggest Han Hsin as an individual who is very prone to betraying his allies, though not always simply for personal gain. Overall, the screenplay integrates both elements of loyalty and treachery into Han Hsin’s character, and portrays a man who wants to be loyal but is pushed into treachery.
