Signature Work Project Overview

Accessing the healthcare system is perceived as a vital component of improving people’s well-being and ensuring their welfare. Policymakers have made much effort to improve citizens’ ability to ameliorate health risks and consequently increase the welfare of low- and middle-income households. To address the disparities and inefficiencies in the Chinese healthcare system, the Chinese government established a more cohesive and efficient health insurance system, Urban and Rural Residents Basic Medical Insurance (URRBMI).  This article focuses on China’s urban-rural medical insurance integration policy and further studies how the medical insurance policy affects Chinese household consumption. And give implications of how a unified medical insurance system impacts household consumption in low- and middle-income countries.
