Signature Work Project Overview

Chalcone, thiosemicarbazone and copper complex with organic compound as ligands are considered to have anticancer property. Copper is also an essential element in human body. This project aims at investigating the synthesis method of the copper complex and checking its interaction with DNA. The ligand used in this project was chalcone-based thiosemicarbazone (c-TSC) which was produced by several synthesis processes for instance, the chalcone was synthesized by ketone and aldehyde. After each synthesis process, the product was checked by IR, NMR, and elemental analysis to prove that the compound made was the expected one. DNA titration experiment and viscosity measurements were used to test the interaction mode between the DNA and metal complex. By checking the interaction mode, the copper complex can be determined whether it can be used as the anticancer or antimicrobial agent in the future.
