This project is an innovative show that combines shadow puppetry and giant puppets. It aims to raise a discussion about the contemporary challenges faced by Chinese feminist groups in the digital age. This performance uses puppetry as a medium, which is a brand-new trial for the Duke Kunshan art community. It welcomes individuals of all ages and backgrounds, including those who are unfamiliar with puppetry, making it an inclusive event.
The first part of the show uses a fairy-tale approach to introduce the audience to a metaphoric story set in a village inhabited by tear elves. This narrative serves to engage and captivate the audience while conveying complex themes. In the second part of the show, the narrator steps in front of the screen and delivers an internal monologue that encourages the audience to consider the challenges facing modern women’s groups. The performance also examines the pros and cons of the impact of social media, providing an insightful and thought-provoking experience for all attendees.
