Signature Work Project Overview

Background: In May 2022, a Mpox pandemic broke out in the US. Vaccine hesitancy is an essential topic to touch on in order to study the disease development and stop the pandemic.
Methods: An anonymous online survey in the US was conducted in order to collect people’s willingness to get vaccinated against and 316 were included into analysis. SEIRV model was used to predict future Mpox trend.
Results: In the future 6 months, not considering the animal-to-human transmission, Mpox will experience a slight peak then decrease after that. According to their self-reported willingness to take the Mpox vaccine in 6 months, 72 (22.7%) participants would be vaccinated and 245 (77.3%) participants would be unvaccinated. Only sexual orientation (P=0.004, CI [1.18-2.39]) and people’s confidence level (P=0.000, CI [1.70-4.58]) in the Mpox vaccines were statistically significant factors that were influencing people’s willingness to get vaccinated.
Conclusion: There are reasons why most participants do not want to get vaccinated in the near future. People might not know about Mpox at all, did not think they are eligible for vaccination, did not think they are at risk, or did not have enough trust. Though mpox will diminish in the future according to the prediction, steps on propaganda of Mpox are still necessary to fight against Mpox infections.
