Throughout my undergrad studies, I was greatly inspired by the courses I took. In Econ 201-Intro to Microeconomics and Econ 204-Intro to Macroeconomics, I was firstly introduced to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) in the field of sustainable development. With the accumulation of relevant knowledge and analysis skills, I am finally able to conduct this systematic review on the topic of “The Impacts of Implementing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG)”. In this paper, I mainly focused on 34 articles between 2000 and 2023 after careful screening and selection. By reviewing these research articles, I try to comprehensively address both positive and negative impacts that ESG practice brings to companies, investors, and government regulations. The main findings cover a wide range of fields, including market performance, risk management, reputations, and costs for companies and investment returns and information accuracy for investors. In addition, in this systematic review, I also discussed and proposed my thoughts on the policy implication brought by ESG practice, through which I want to inspire further research on relevant topics.
