Signature Work Project Overview
Objective: This review aims to dive deeper into the details of interventions, summarizing their contents, modes of delivery, and implementation settings, trying to identify the strategies that are most effective for Chinese adolescents with culture-specificity.
Methods: Five databases were searched systematically to identify eligible studies on sex education interventions conducted among Chinese adolescents aged between 10-19, targeting at improving their sexual health.
Results: Nine studies with nine separate interventional research were included in the final review. Interventions were mainly school-based and internet-based, with well-designed curriculums being the major mode of delivery, covering topics of reproduction health, disease prevention, contraception, adolescent development, sex related life-skills, and so on.
Conclusion: School-based and internet-based comprehensive sex education delivered in integrative approaches have positive effects on improving Chinese adolescents’ reproduction knowledge, attitudes towards sex, and self-efficacy, while have limited impacts on reducing risky sexual behaviors and enhancing practical life skills.
