Signature Work Project Overview

My signature work project revolves around examining the neural circuits involved in metamemory-driven cognitive offloading through DTI investigation. Metacognition plays a significant role in prompting cognitive offloading, yet the specific neural processes behind the decision to offload memory tasks remain largely unexplored. Utilizing behavioral and neuroimaging data collected by Yunxuan Zheng and Danni Wang, my project delves into the neural correlates of metamemory-driven cognitive offloading. We employed diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) to assess the structural integrity of white matter fiber tracts. Following DTI data collection, participants engaged in an intention offloading task and provided self-reported confidence judgments. Our analysis revealed a correlation between the structural integrity of the fornix, superior longitudinal fasciculus, and cingulum bundle and participants’ metacognitive abilities. These findings contribute to our understanding of the neural mechanisms underlying metacognition and its influence on memory offloading decisions.
