This signature work project explores the relationship between enterprises’ ESG scores and their financial performances using a market-based approach. It evaluates the relationship not only from an overall ESG score but also includes an investigation into individual ESG scores in the analysis. Further, compared to previous research, it analyzes the role of company ownership by dividing the company into state-owned enterprises and non-state-owned enterprises where they impact the relationship between ESG and enterprises’ financial performances differently. This study also distinguishes itself by incorporating large-scale and representative sample data across 10 industries in China by adopting the CSI 1000 index, providing a long-term analysis of the above relationships.
