About

My name is Tetyana (Tanya) Torchylo. I am an international student from Ukraine, majoring in Political Economy with a track in Public Policy.

Signature Work Project Overview

My Signature Work explores the pivotal role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the 2014 Maidan Revolution in Ukraine. The study provides a theoretical framework to understand how ICT facilitates the mobilization and coordination of protests. It reveals ICT’s ability to, first, facilitate mobilization by reducing information acquisition costs and highlighting dramatic content and, second, contribute to coordination by promoting public participation and lessening the need for formal leadership. The theoretical framework sheds light on key dynamics during the Maidan Revolution, such as the public’s rapid shift from skepticism to commitment at the beginning of the protest and participants’ reliance on self-organization practices during the protest.
