| This project delves into the repercussions of investment losses on mental health in today’s volatile financial landscape. It explores the influence of success narratives-stories of individuals overcoming financial setbacks-on decision-making and psychological resilience. Conducted through an online investment game, 85 participants from the US were randomly assigned to either an Experimental or Control Group. The Experimental Group was exposed to success narratives, while the Control Group was not. The primary outcome measure was participants’ decision to persist in the game after experiencing initial investment losses, serving as an indicator of investment activity persistence. Secondary measures included pre- and post-experiment emotional responses, resilience scores, and perceptions of investment risk. The study found that exposure to success narratives showed a tendency towards increased investment continuation after experiencing losses. However, the current dataset’s limited size prevents definitive conclusions regarding correlations and causality. Additionally, ANOVA analysis revealed a significant impact of success narratives on measured resilience scores, suggesting their potential in bolstering psychological resilience amid financial adversity. Regression analysis identified annual income and education level as significant predictors of investment persistence, highlighting the complex interplay of socioeconomic factors in investment decisions. |
