The project aimed to investigate the impact of power status and group identity on dehumanization tendencies among individuals. Through a carefully designed online survey involving 1000 participants recruited from the Prolific research platform, the study explored how individuals perceive and attribute human traits to others based on their group affiliation and perceived power status. Participants were presented with treatment texts that manipulated their perception of power dynamics and group identity, followed by measures assessing levels of dehumanization in both subtle and blatant manners. The study revealed intriguing findings that shed light on the complex interplay between power dynamics, group identity, and dehumanization tendencies. By challenging traditional notions of power dynamics and highlighting the significant influence of group identity on dehumanization, this project contributes valuable insights to the understanding of social behavior and intergroup relations.
