The signature work project titled “Genome Sequencing and Alignment of Avian Influenza Viruses in Kunshan with Database Sequence Comparison” by Jianning He, under the mentorship of Prof. Yiu Wing Kam and Prof. Sajid Umar, aims to investigate the genetic relationships and evolutionary dynamics of Avian Influenza Viruses (AIVs) found in Kunshan, China, in relation to strains documented across different geographical regions in China. This research focuses on the comprehensive analysis of the HA protein genome sequences of AIV strains collected in Kunshan, comparing them with those available in online databases to identify genetic variations and potential new mutants. The study discovered that the HA gene sequences of all five AIV strains from Kunshan precisely matched those recorded in existing online databases, indicating an absence of new mutations within the samples during the study period. This research contributes to the understanding of AIV evolution and highlights the importance of continuous monitoring and genetic analysis to inform public health strategies and vaccine development efforts against AIV strains. |
