Our study provides baseline epidemiological data for policy makers for a better prevention of FPV regarding to vaccination strategies. This study confirms that FPV-G1 carries a novel mutation (A91S) and is the predominant group of FPV infecting cats in Kunshan. Therefore, we urge careful screening of cats for VP2 gene of FPV during routine diagnosis to determine the genotypes. In addition, a rigorous countrywide investigation of genotypic and evolutionary characteristics of FPV is warranted.
