Reproductive health and family planning are largely unexplored and under-research facets of healthcare in Morocco. The criminalization of non-marital sexual relations and of abortion procedures in the country under all conditions has led to significant adverse health outcomes among women and children due to the widespread prevalence of unsafe clandestine abortions and of newborn abandonment. Our cross-sectional study that surveyed adult Moroccan females aims to investigate the factors associated with abortion occurrence within our population sample, and the factors associated with attitudes towards the potential legalization of abortion in the country. The findings help identify the groups most at risk for adverse health outcomes from abortions, and the factors to target in seeking to improve the status of reproductive health in Morocco. |
