This study, utilizing surveys and in-depth interviews, thoroughly analyzed the perceptions and views of contemporary young people and professionals in the psychological counseling industry regarding the current state of China’s psychological counseling market. It then identified the challenges faced and proposed corresponding strategies to address them. The research highlights that China’s paid psychological counseling market has significant potential for growth. However, the outbreak of COVID-19 has added complexity to the market environment, such as the increase in online counseling methods. This study suggests that the for-profit psychological counseling agencies face multiple challenges, including but not limited to inadequate promotion, high service costs, and insufficient regulation. This study extensively discusses these issues, aiming to provide new perspectives and insights for market participants, professionals, and the young consumer demographic, with the goal of promoting the healthy development and expansion of the psychological counseling industry.
