Signature Work Project Overview

This project, “A Natural Language Processing Study of Sanskrit Scriptures in Newar Buddhism,” focuses on analyzing the Svayambhūpurāṇa and Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra using NLP tools. It addresses the challenge of limited NLP frameworks available for Sanskrit, noting the discontinuation of crucial foundational work. Highlighting the complexity of Sanskrit’s compound and decomposition processes, the project underscores the need for dedicated NLP research in Sanskrit and Buddhist studies. It points towards the potential of Large Language Models to support under-resourced languages like Sanskrit, advocating for the development of foundational NLP tools to advance digital humanities research in this area.
