Metacognition refers to the ability to reflect on one’s cognition. It contributes to the process of “knowing what we know” when we reflect on our perception of a concept. Metaemotion is a relatively new area of research that looks at the relationship between emotions and cognition and how people reflect on the accuracy of their decisions. The current study includes a behavioral task of emotion recognition which tests the subjects’ accuracy in identifying happy, disgust, and fear facial expressions and their confidence levels upon making decisions.
