This study demonstrates the spatial heterogeneity of the cyanobacteria communities within lake Taihu. Even though dominated by Microcystis, the bloom associate communities have compositional differences across the lake. Correlation analysis indicates the potential role of Rhodobacteracceae and Phenylobacterium, both of which contain PAH decomposition pathways, in promoting the bloom-forming process. We suggested PAHs may play an important role in promoting the bloom formation in lake Taihu. Further research can be developed to study the functional interaction between Rhodobacteracceae, Phenylobacterium, and various cyanobacteria species to explore whether PAHs are an important contributor to cyanobacteria bloom in lake Taihu. |
