Signature Work Project Overview

In this project, Fengnan Li explored the field of non-photorealistic rendering. Based on the literature reviewed, Fengnan Li applied a range of algorithms and techniques and implemented seven NPR effects: cel shading, tone based shading and stylized highlight in cartoon rendering with different shading and highlight styles, hatching and pencil sketch shading in stylized pencil rendering, oil painting rendering implemented by image processing techniques, and ink painting effects achieved by modifying the cel shading methods. In addition, a demo application was developed for users to import their models and play around with a variety of NPR effects, which showcases the beautiful and engaging artwork created by NPR techniques. This signature work project is based on the interaction between science and art and it demonstrates that artistic thinking and aesthetic principles can be interpreted in a mathematical way.
