Signature Work Project Overview

The criticism against the underrepresentation of women in the financial services labor market has been in the limelight and this situation has remained persistent for decades, reflected through the gap between males and females in job opportunities and annual earnings. In this paper, I investigate the true occurrence of gender discrimination at the first hiring stage in different major cities in the US. By conducting a correspondence experiment with fictitious job applications, this paper aims to evaluate the level of gender discrimination for these two jobs above entry level: accountant and financial analyst. My Signature Work project provides further insights into the literature on gender discrimination by looking at higher-level positions. Additionally, this project has inspired me to passionately promote diversity and inclusion of minority groups in any corporate environment where I will work in the future.
