Kunshan, located in the southeastern part of Jiangsu province, has long been recognized as a leading hub for economic growth in China. With a population of over 2 million, Kunshan has become an attractive destination for domestic and foreign investors alike, thanks to its robust infrastructure, strategic location, and talented workforce. The city’s remarkable economic achievements cannot be understated. In 2022, its GDP has exceeded 500 billion RMB, which is an amazing amount for a county-level city. In comparison, Kunshan’s GDP is higher than most prefecture-level cities in China, and even some provinces such as Tibet and Ningxia. But what makes Kunshan stand out? How has Kunshan achieved such an incredible economic growth? These questions are what I am curious about and dedicated to exploring, and this paper aims to conduct a comprehensive analysis on them and try to provide the solutions. Through a comprehensive analysis of Kunshan’s economy and development, this paper will delve into the factors that have contributed to its success. Considerable attention will be paid to the close relationship between Kunshan and Shanghai, which has played a crucial role in driving economic growth in Kunshan. In addition, as one of the most prosperous cities in China, Kunshan’s economic success also offers valuable insights into how regional development strategies can promote sustainable growth and prosperity. By analyzing the unique characteristics of Kunshan’s economic landscape and exploring its growth trajectory, this paper seeks to shed light on the factors that are critical to achieving success in today’s rapidly changing global economy.
