Signature Work Project Overview

Globally, one in three women have experienced some form of sexual or physical violence, either from a partner or non-partner. With a rise in globalization, social environments become more diverse and multicultural, which allows for cultural awareness, but comes with a consequence with people within a community having different understandings of uncomfortable but important concepts, such as safe sex practices and sexual assault. Particularly, higher education institutions host an environment with many young adults with various cultural backgrounds, allowing students to express similarities and differences in attitudes regarding sexual relations. Ultimately, different cultures implies different perceptions, including those related to sexual violence and harassment. The overarching goal of this project is to study various aspects of culture and identify variabilities regarding sexual perceptions within the Duke Kunshan University environment. Further, this study aims to promote the DKU community to discuss sexual safety and consent in an engaging, safe, and anonymous environment.
