Signature Work Project Overview

This research discusses how Duke Kunshan University (DKU) handled the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and the policies implemented to protect DKU community from students’ perspectives. Both before and after COVID-19 time are considered for policy implementations’ analysis with the ethical framework of the Belmont Principles of Respect, Beneficence, and Justice. Interviews were conducted with 19 students to collect students’ views about how the policies affected the students in the three aspects of Belmont Principles. Based on the interviews, the common themes for respect aspect were being listened to, having lucid communication, and having options. Themes for Beneficence were attempts at protection and a lack of support and services. Themes for Justice were equity in opportunities, access to information, and resource availability. The action list was created to guide the policymakers in the future to have policies implemented that are respective, protect from harm, and be fair to the students.
