| China’s mission to achieve carbon neutrality in 2060 is demanding. The Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) industry contributes to a large proportion of China’s economy thus also carbon emission. Thus, realizing the zero-carbon pledge in the ICT industry is crucial. This study addresses the question of how the current ICT carbon mitigation policies can contribute to attaining the zero carbon goals in the ICT industry, utilizing Kunshan as an example. The study reviews previous work on ICT carbon mitigation and current policies. Then, it employs the LEAP model to predict the ICT carbon emission in Kunshan High-Tech District. The prediction is divided into three carbon emission scenarios: the baseline scenario, the low-carbon scenario and the enhanced low-carbon scenario. The results indicate that under the condition of the enhanced low-carbon scenario, the zero-carbon goals can be achieved in 2060. Additionally, most of the carbon mitigations are actually dependent on the promotion of clean and renewable energy. |
