Signature Work Project Overview

As the global climate crisis intensifies, the strategies for promoting sustainable growth in companies are being re-evaluated. With the increasing number of green investments made by companies, governments, and non-governmental organizations, it is essential to understand the connection between companies’ attitudes and their commitments to achieving net-zero emissions. To ensure statistically significant results while still focusing the study, this research will examine the attitudes of Fortune Global 500 companies. These attitudes will be measured through a textual analysis of the companies’ websites and CEO statements regarding net-zero emissions in their annual reports. At the same time, nations around the world are making collective efforts to reach net-zero emissions, however, there is still a significant gap between the commitments made and actual progress. This disparity may be due to a misalignment between the countries’ and the companies’ commitment to net-zero emissions. The purpose of this paper is to examine the attitudes and commitments of Fortune Global 500 companies and test the hypothesis that the failure to reach net-zero emissions is due to a lack of commitment from companies. Additionally, this research aims to provide a potential solution by identifying an instrumental variable that can separate financial growth from environmental pledges.
