Charitable groups have been increasingly prominent in the third sector, an umbrella terms representing non-governmental, non-profit and value-driven organizations including social enterprises, voluntary and community organizations and charities, in recent years. However, various scandals in Chinese philanthropy industry, including corruption, misallocation of funds, as well as a lack of transparency, have seriously suppressed donors’ enthusiasm for donating and affected investors’ rights. Meanwhile, blockchain, a promising technology, shows great potential of eradicating corruption and opacity existing in Chinese charity, through a decentralized, unchangeable, and untraceable transaction procedure. Individual donors who are essential stakeholders in philanthropy industry, may hold various preferences towards the implementation of blockchain technology in charities. Therefore, through conducting the factorial survey approaches of individual donors, this paper uses t-test and ordinal least square analysis (OLS) method to conclude the following results. Blockchain technology has an overall positive influence on donors’ willingness to donate, and an even greater positive impact than not charging a fee. Moreover, this paper specifies on domestic and international donation vignettes arrival at the conclusion that individual donors show higher willingness to swift from traditional to blockchain-enabled donation when giving domestically. With respect to individual’s demographics and donation patterns, this paper displays the significant impact of age and contribution pattern, namely, donors from age 45-55 and with contribution experiences are more readiness to change to donating through blockchain technology.
