As Big Data technology develops, about people is collected, analyzed, and used by governments and enterprises. While this brings convenience to people, it also produces social problems such as data discrimination. This paper discusses the current status of data discrimination, the reasons behind it, including technical and moral reasons, and motivations, as well as extrapolations about future data discrimination in the light of information technology and social developments, and analyzes the impact of this issue in the possible coming metaverse.
This paper believes that with the progress of technology, personalized and differentiated services will be very common in the future, and can easily lead to data discrimination. However, with adequate supervision and the awareness of data users, the harm of data discrimination can be effectively limited.
Therefore, this paper puts forward countermeasures from four aspects, including individuals, enterprises, governments, and third parties, in order to improve the public awareness of self-protection and to remind all walks of life to prevent data discrimination from causing serious harm to society in the future.
